Speaking at SQLDay 2018 in Poland

Speaking at SQLDay 2018 in Poland From May 14-16 I will be in Wrocław attending SQLDay 2018, the 10th edition of the largest Microsoft Data Platform conference in Poland. I have never been to Poland before, so I’m very excited that I finally get the chance to attend, yay! :)

SQLDay 2018 Workshops and Sessions

SQLDay 2018 has 6 workshops and more than 50 sessions over three days. Check out the amazing line-up!

I will be presenting my Level Up Your Biml: Best Practices and Coding Techniques session, covering topics such as CallBimlScript, LINQ (Language-Integrated Queries), and C# helper classes and extension methods. I have added a couple of new things to this session since the last time I presented it, and I hope this will help fellow Bimlers become even more productive.

See you there?
Are you also planning to attend? Let me know, and come and say hi if you see me! :)

Speaking and Volunteering at SQLBits 2018

Cathrine Wilhelmsen Speaking at SQLBits 2018

It’s that time of year again… The largest, coolest, geekiest, most awesome party of the year is just around the corner! Oh, and there’s this conference attached to the party as well. SQLBits 2018: Magic Edition. You may have heard of it? :D

SQLBits is the largest SQL Server and Microsoft Data Platform conference in Europe. It has 4 days of training and over 170 sessions by both the Microsoft Product Group and community speakers. It’s a professional conference in all ways, and it’s organized entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers. That’s right, it’s a pure community event, and it’s fantastic.

I was a speaker and volunteer at SQLBits 2015 (Superhero Edition), a precon speaker at SQLBits 2016 (Space Edition), a PASS representative at SQLBits 2017 (Disco Edition), and I’m very happy to go back to where I started as a speaker and volunteer at SQLBits 2018 (Magic Edition). I was actually really bummed when I wasn’t a volunteer, it’s so much fun helping out to make it a smooth conference for attendees and getting to know all the other wonderful volunteers. This year, I’m back! Yay :)

Precon and Speaking at SQLSaturday Nashville 2018

SQLSatNashWoohoo! I’m very happy to announce that Jason Horner (@jasonhorner) and I will be presenting a precon at SQLSaturday Nashville 2018! The precon will be held on Friday, January 12th, and is focused on SSIS and Biml. We will also be at the SQLSaturday where Jason will be presenting about Dimensional Modeling and I will be presenting about Biml. This will be my first time visiting Nashville, so I’m very much looking forward to it :)

SQLSaturday Nashville 2018 Precon (Jan 12)

Jason Horner and Cathrine Wilhelmsen presents ETL Design Patterns at SQLSaturday Nashville 2018

Jason had been working on a precon idea for a while that would bring together all his experience using SSIS to deliver ETL projects. I wanted to develop a new precon focusing on Biml and SSIS. Instead of working on two separate precons, we decided to team up and combine our knowledge. We will be delivering this precon for the first time in Nashville, and we’re looking forward to helping attendees by providing guidance on how to solve challenges they might face in their projects.

You can read more about why we wanted to present this precon in our interview on the Nashville BI User Group website.

Check out the full abstract and register for our precon on bit.ly/ETL-Precon-Nash. A regular full-day is only $129, and for only $165 you can also attend one of the half-day precons on Thursday. What a bargain!

SQLSaturday Nashville 2018 Sessions (Jan 13)

Jason and I are also presenting a regular session each. Jason will be presenting his Dimensional Modeling Design Patterns: Beyond the Basics session, and I will be presenting my Biml for Beginners: Speed Up Your SSIS Development session.

Check out the full SQLSaturday Nashville schedule and register today to get all the news and updates. You can also follow @SQLSatNash on Twitter and use the hashtag #SQLSatNash to join the conversation. Please help spread the word to all your friends and coworkers, and make sure you sign up before the event is full.

Hope to see you in Nashville in January! :)

Speaking at SQLSaturday Denver 2017

Cathrine Wilhelmsen Speaking at SQLSaturday Denver 2017

On Saturday, September 16th, I’m speaking at SQLSaturday Denver 2017! I’m presenting my Level Up Your Biml: Best Practices and Coding Techniques session: Learn how to centralize and reuse code with include files and the CallBimlScript methods. Make your code easier to read and write by utilizing LINQ (Language-Integrated Queries). Share code between files by using Annotations and ObjectTags. And finally, if standard Biml is not enough to solve your problems, you can create your own C# helper classes and extension methods to implement custom logic.

Since I last presented this session, BimlExpress 2017 has been released with a bunch of new features. I have updated my session to include some of these new features, and I’m looking forward to presenting with the new preview expanded Biml pane. Being able to see the expanded Biml is hopefully going to make it a lot easier for me to explain some of these things and for attendees to follow along :)

If you really like Biml, check out the three other Biml sessions at SQLSaturday Denver: Biml 101: Automation and Patterns by Yuliya Quintela, Stop Repeating Yourself – Automating Azure Data Movement With BimlScript by Levi Syck (@levisyck), and Metadata driven development by Bill Fellows (@billinkc).

Will you be attending SQLSaturday Denver? Come and say hi when you see me! :)
