PASS Deutschland is celebrating 15 years at SQLKonferenz 2019! I’m honored that I get to be part of it. From February 19-21, I will be hanging out in Darmstadt, Germany with Damon the Data Monster – and a couple hundred other old and new friends :)
I attended my first SQLKonferenz in 2015, and had an absolutely fantastic time. It was the first multi-day SQL Server conference I ever attended, and it was only my third time speaking! I was a nervous wreck :) But things went well, I made new friends, and I have wanted to go back ever since. This is finally the year! :D
SQLKonferenz 2019 Agenda
This year, there will be 45+ sessions over two days, plus 5 precons. About half the sessions will be presented in German, and half in English. You can check out the full agenda here.
I will be presenting a brand new session on Data Virtualization, which I’m both excited and nervous about:
Data Integration through Data Virtualization
Level: Intermediate (200)
Time: Thursday, February 21st, 9:30 am
Data virtualization is an alternative to Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes. It handles the complexity of integrating different data sources and formats without requiring you to replicate or move the data itself. Save time, minimize effort, and eliminate duplicate data by creating a virtual data layer using PolyBase in SQL Server.
In this session, we will first go through fundamental PolyBase concepts such as external data sources and external tables. Then, we will look at the PolyBase improvements in SQL Server 2019. Finally, we will create a virtual data layer that accesses and integrates both structured and unstructured data from different sources. Along the way, we will cover lessons learned, best practices, and known limitations.
Real-World Data Movement and Orchestration Patterns using Azure Data Factory V2
This is actually Jason Horner’s session. Why do I list it here? Because we co-presented it at Microsoft Ignite :) Depending on the schedule (meaning if we don’t present at the same time), I might
crash his session co-present this session with him.
